I understand there are a number of sites encouraging people to send money to Donate Life America in honor of Alex's birthday. I think contributions to donate life America are wonderful, if the contribution is a registration to become an organ donor.

However, let me tell everyone, that the Campaign Director for Donate Life Hollywood (a subsidiary of Donate Life America) has straight out told Christi and me that they really do not seek monetary donations.

They are supported by grant money.

Those wishing to honor Alex's birthday in this way might be better served by contacting The National Transplant Assistance Fund, http://www.transplantfund.org/
and donating to one of the recipient fund raisers in their own areas.

The NTAF is rated 4 out of 4 stars by all the charity watchdog groups, they've been serving donor recipients for the past 25 years, and have raised over $52 million dollars on a community by community basis to help recipients with expenses such as anti-rejection medications, housing during the transplant period (usually 3 mos. away from home), child care, etc.

The NTAF can tell you where the funds are most needed.

And of course the American Red Cross is always in need of financial support.

Again, this Fan Club site does not solicit funds in any way.

I'm sure Alex would be touched to know that people in need are being helped by your expressions of love and best wishes for him.

So are you now saying that the information on the Donate Life site is incorrect? or hasn't been upgraded, and they no longer accept or ask for monetary donations?

I'm not being argumentative, I'm just a bit bamboozled at the moment confused

For my own part, I sent Alex a Heart Motif card with a message in it informing him that I am now an officially registered Organ Donor with the Australian Organ Donor's Registry.

This was discussed in a conversation when we were talking about the many ways to help the transplant community. "We really don't go after donations. We're supported by grant money. We're after donor registration. There are other agencies who collect for recipients. We don't need the money."

Maybe their web site has it listed because so many people just want to give. But again, if you want to give, give to the organizations who actually need monetary donations. The National Transplant Assistance Fund is a good place to start. And of course you can never lose with the American or International Red Cross!

The address you have is an "annual giving" office, perhaps they accept $$ thru the annual giving dept.

Seeing that I am new to owning a site when we got the info that said they weren't soliciting $$ I was OK with it.

We were just going on the information we were able to ascertain at the time. Obviously it's too late to change it now. We will bear this new information in mind if, and when, we conduct anymore charity campaigns of this nature on the VS Board.
